Review Methodology

This page describes how we compare wagons and accessories.

Category comparison

  • We compare by category type first (stroller wagon, folding kids wagon, all-terrain, beach, 2-seater, 4-seater, big-kid, gear-only).
  • For each category we list typical use cases, common manufacturers, and the specs that matter most.

Spec scoring

  • Per-seat and total weight limits — the most important spec; insufficient weight rating means the wagon is the wrong category for your family.
  • Harness design — 5-point harness > 3-point > none. Utility wagons usually have none.
  • Brake design — parking brake on flat ground; some models add a hand brake.
  • Fold dimensions — measured against common trunk sizes.
  • Terrain rating — manufacturer’s stated terrain limits, not our guess.
  • Accessory ecosystem — canopy, organizer, snack tray, cooler bag, rain cover availability.

Hands-on testing

If a guide is based on hands-on testing, the article explicitly says so and lists the test conditions. If it is desk-research only, we say that too.

What we will not do

  • Invent ratings or prices.
  • Claim a recall-affected product is safe.
  • Recommend a utility wagon for child transport unless the manufacturer says it is.
